• The Writer

Hello! My name is Laura, welcome to my blog! I write weird stories, collect dragon plushies and stay up too late with my nose in a book. I am a wife, mom and child saved by grace. My hope is that you find encouragement here or at least a smile or too.
    God bless!

We have come from God, and inevitably the myths woven by us, though they contain error, will also reflect a splintered fragment of the true light, the eternal truth that is with God. Indeed only by myth-making, only by becoming 'sub-creator' and inventing stories, can Man aspire to the state of perfection that he knew before the Fall. Our myths may be misguided, but they steer however shakily towards the true harbour, while materialistic 'progress' leads only to a yawning abyss and the Iron Crown of the power of evil.
    ~J.R.R. Tolkien

"The only just literary critic," he concluded, "is Christ, who admires more than does any man the gifts He Himself has bestowed."
    ~J.R.R. Tolkien

“Fantasy is escapist, and that is its glory. If a soldier is imprisioned by the enemy, don't we consider it his duty to escape?. . .If we value the freedom of mind and soul, if we're partisans of liberty, then it's our plain duty to escape, and to take as many people with us as we can!”
    ~J.R.R. Tolkien

"Writers who see by the light of their Christian faith will have, in these times, the sharpest eye for the grotesque, for the perverse, and for the unacceptable. To the hard of hearing you shout, and for the almost-blind you draw large and startling figures."
    ~Flannery O'Connor

You write to communicate to the hearts and minds of others what’s burning inside you. And we edit to let the fire show through the smoke.
    ~Arthur Polotnik

Words - so innocent and powerless as they are, as standing in a dictionary, how potent for good and evil they become in the hands of one who knows how to combine them.
    ~Nathaniel Hawthorne

"There are forms of insanity that condemn people to hear voices against their will, but as writers we invite ourselves to hear voices without relinquishing our hold on reality or our right to control."
    ~Writing Fiction by Janet Burroway

Christians have sometimes been suspicious of stories, because they really can influence you. If you read the Twilight novels once a month for a year, I think you'd be a different human afterward—and not a sparkly one.

Surprise

Two weeks ago I flew down to Oklahoma to surprised my fiancé…

…and I surprised him goooood.  It was awesome. 🙂

I love you, Daniel.  I’m so thankful I was able to spend that time with you.  Only 151 more days!

Pictures =)

Playing Around with Pictures

So… my work schedule for this week ended up being really weird, so I do not have a vlog post for you… but, I do have some awesome pictures to share. 🙂

Photobucket finally updated their photo editor, and it’s rather addicting. 😉

A picture from last years OYAN Summer Workshops.  My friend’s Keifer and Carlie on our Doctor Who day.  (Keifer as the Doctor and Carlie as the Weeping Angel.)  I put the TARDIS in the back ground and added a bunch of filters, plus the words “Don’t Blink”.

I just HAD to put myself with the TARDIS. 🙂  (Picture taken by my photographer sister Katie Jenkins.)

Cover photo for Facebook.  I had allot of fun with this one.  Things I did with this… Color change, canvas filter, paper filter, smudge and mug ring stickers, ripped paper border, and blurred edges.

Archie the stalker. 😉  Couldn’t resister slipping a character into a picture with me. 🙂

I honestly don’t remember everything I did to this picture.  It was allot.

The words say:

“He’s like fire and ice and rage.  He’s like the night and the storm and the heart of the sun.  He burns at the center of time and he can see the turn of the universe.  He’s ancient and forever, and, He’s wonderful.”   (Season 3 episode “The Family of Blood”.)

“His name is The Doctor.” (Season 3 episode “Last of the Time Lords”.)

And then of course I had to re-do covers for Choices and Chances. 🙂

What do you guys think?

My Little Niece Ellie

I had to share these pictures of my two year old niece playing with Woody.  She’s so precious and I love her to bits!

🙂

Katie Elizabeth Photography: Winter is Here

A little advertisement for my sister’s awesome photography.  She is so talented, I had to show off more of her pictures. 🙂

Her Facebook page can be found HERE.

Frozen Dalek Discovered in Park

Two whovians + lots of snow = a giant snow Dalek.

Here is what a friend and I did at our local park for three hours.  We had allot of fun doing it too. 🙂

A Good Read

Nothing like a good book and a cup of hot chocolate on a cold winters day. 🙂

(Showing off my sister’s photography skills.)

2011 Highlights (tried again)

Alright!  After messaging YouTube, I got the content of my video opened!  So, finally, here are the highlights of an amazing year. 🙂

Spring Rain

I love how the world looks right after it’s rained.  Everything is bathed in freshness.

I took my camera with me on my walk today.  Though it was gray and about to rain again any second, it was a beautiful day.

Spring turned everything green, but the rain turned everything bright and brilliant.

Just another Washington Spring day.
