• The Writer

Hello! My name is Laura, welcome to my blog! I write weird stories, collect dragon plushies and stay up too late with my nose in a book. I am a wife, mom and child saved by grace. My hope is that you find encouragement here or at least a smile or too.
    God bless!

We have come from God, and inevitably the myths woven by us, though they contain error, will also reflect a splintered fragment of the true light, the eternal truth that is with God. Indeed only by myth-making, only by becoming 'sub-creator' and inventing stories, can Man aspire to the state of perfection that he knew before the Fall. Our myths may be misguided, but they steer however shakily towards the true harbour, while materialistic 'progress' leads only to a yawning abyss and the Iron Crown of the power of evil.
    ~J.R.R. Tolkien

"The only just literary critic," he concluded, "is Christ, who admires more than does any man the gifts He Himself has bestowed."
    ~J.R.R. Tolkien

“Fantasy is escapist, and that is its glory. If a soldier is imprisioned by the enemy, don't we consider it his duty to escape?. . .If we value the freedom of mind and soul, if we're partisans of liberty, then it's our plain duty to escape, and to take as many people with us as we can!”
    ~J.R.R. Tolkien

"Writers who see by the light of their Christian faith will have, in these times, the sharpest eye for the grotesque, for the perverse, and for the unacceptable. To the hard of hearing you shout, and for the almost-blind you draw large and startling figures."
    ~Flannery O'Connor

You write to communicate to the hearts and minds of others what’s burning inside you. And we edit to let the fire show through the smoke.
    ~Arthur Polotnik

Words - so innocent and powerless as they are, as standing in a dictionary, how potent for good and evil they become in the hands of one who knows how to combine them.
    ~Nathaniel Hawthorne

"There are forms of insanity that condemn people to hear voices against their will, but as writers we invite ourselves to hear voices without relinquishing our hold on reality or our right to control."
    ~Writing Fiction by Janet Burroway

Christians have sometimes been suspicious of stories, because they really can influence you. If you read the Twilight novels once a month for a year, I think you'd be a different human afterward—and not a sparkly one.
    ~Nate Wilson

My 3yr old Niece is a Taylor Swift Fan

Guess who likes Taylor Swift’s new break up song?  My 3 year old niece Ellie! 🙂   She is so cute…

I know what we’re going to do next time she’s over… 😉

(Video made by my brother)

My 3 year old daughter LOVES this song… so much that she calls it “her song”. She sang a better take before this one, and turned up the excitement when I brought out the camera. Oh, and “Minnie” is her toy Minnie that’s “listening to her sing” from my lap. 🙂 Oh these precious family times!

Counting Stars

One a sunny day, my neighbor Molly agreed to be my helper for a video. She become my cute little actress and did an awesome job with the directions I gave her.
I am very happy with how this video turned out.  Hope you enjoy it. 🙂

An update on how things are going should be coming soon!  Started a new job this week so things just got even more crazy. 🙂

A Writer’s Soundtrack

I’m one of those writers that likes to write to music.  It helps me get in the mood for whatever scene I am writing and helps me concentrate.

Choices: Music

Yes, I’m one of those crazily obsessed writers that has music and special songs to go with every story and character.  😛

Why and how do I have songs for characters and stories?  Well, 1) it usually just happens.  I’ll be listening to the radio or my ipod and suddenly a song comes on that is a perfect description of a certain character or story.  2) Music is a different way of communicating, and usually involves more emotion.  Songs help me better understand my characters on a more personal level.  It’s like getting a peak into their hearts through something that I didn’t write.  It’s really quite cool. 🙂

So, anywho, now that I’ve explained that, here are the songs that go with Choices and its characters.

Kate’s Song:

Terren’s song:

Kate and Terren’s Song:

Song for Choices: (I thought it was interesing the song mentions a girl named Emily.  Emily was Kate’s original name.)

An Awesome New Song

Hello readers!  Since I don’t have anything to post I’m going to share a new song by one of my favorite artists with you.   The artist… Michael Bublé.  Yes, I am a Michael Bublé fan. 😉  He has this new, awesome song called “Hollywood”, and that is the song I’m sharing with you.  Enjoy! 🙂
