Hello! My name is Laura, welcome to my blog! I write weird stories, collect dragon plushies and stay up too late with my nose in a book. I am a wife, mom and child saved by grace. My hope is that you find encouragement here or at least a smile or too.
    God bless!

We have come from God, and inevitably the myths woven by us, though they contain error, will also reflect a splintered fragment of the true light, the eternal truth that is with God. Indeed only by myth-making, only by becoming 'sub-creator' and inventing stories, can Man aspire to the state of perfection that he knew before the Fall. Our myths may be misguided, but they steer however shakily towards the true harbour, while materialistic 'progress' leads only to a yawning abyss and the Iron Crown of the power of evil.
    ~J.R.R. Tolkien

"The only just literary critic," he concluded, "is Christ, who admires more than does any man the gifts He Himself has bestowed."
    ~J.R.R. Tolkien

“Fantasy is escapist, and that is its glory. If a soldier is imprisioned by the enemy, don't we consider it his duty to escape?. . .If we value the freedom of mind and soul, if we're partisans of liberty, then it's our plain duty to escape, and to take as many people with us as we can!”
    ~J.R.R. Tolkien

"Writers who see by the light of their Christian faith will have, in these times, the sharpest eye for the grotesque, for the perverse, and for the unacceptable. To the hard of hearing you shout, and for the almost-blind you draw large and startling figures."
    ~Flannery O'Connor

You write to communicate to the hearts and minds of others what’s burning inside you. And we edit to let the fire show through the smoke.
    ~Arthur Polotnik

Words - so innocent and powerless as they are, as standing in a dictionary, how potent for good and evil they become in the hands of one who knows how to combine them.
    ~Nathaniel Hawthorne

"There are forms of insanity that condemn people to hear voices against their will, but as writers we invite ourselves to hear voices without relinquishing our hold on reality or our right to control."
    ~Writing Fiction by Janet Burroway

Christians have sometimes been suspicious of stories, because they really can influence you. If you read the Twilight novels once a month for a year, I think you'd be a different human afterward—and not a sparkly one.
    ~Nate Wilson

Someone New

There is someone new in my head.  Yep.  Actually, there have been four new people in my head.  Three (I shall call them The Three) that introduced themselves a couple months ago and one that just suddenly popped up a couple days ago, but the three have been very quiet.  This new person though… she hasn’t been loud, but her thoughts have been.  Her heart is very full and her emotions grab at my attention.  I thought she was someone else when she first presented herself, but she has taken on a different personality that has surprised me.  In fact, each new thing I learn about her has surprised me.  I kind of like it.

I’ve only seen a few flashed of the story The Three are in, beyond those flashes, they haven’t shown me anything else.

In case you don’t know what I mean by “flashes” I shall give a quick explanation.  When I get a new story idea, the characters always come first and through their present thoughts and emotions pieces of their stories show themselves in brief flashes.  Through these flashes their stories begin to develop.  It’s like remembering a scene from a movie, but you can only remember a very small piece of.  Or a clip from some forgotten memory.  You see a quick scene, know what the characters in it are feeling and then have to figure out what’s going on.  Yep, that’s how it works for me.

The flashes I’ve seen of this New One’s story have been very intense and emotional.  Lot’s of things are going on in her life.  I’ve only known her for just a few days and her story has me very curious.  This is the first scene where I met her…

Pain, darkness.  This was all I knew.  I couldn’t feel me body anymore, everything was the same, just pain.

What was that sound?  Baying… the hounds!  I had to get away, I had to keep running.  Why can’t I move?

I opened my eyes, a blinding light above me stung.  I let me eyelids close.

I shivered. It was cold, so cold.  Why was it so cold?

I found it hard to breath.  I had to fight for every breath.  A drop of sweat trickled down my head making my scalp tickle.  I managed to raise my hand to my forehead.  It was hot to the touch.  A sharp pain dug threw my shoulder, torso and thigh. Slowly, I moved my hand to my stomach, it was wet.  Warm liquid seeped across my fingers.

Blood.  The word came to my mind on it’s own.  Blood… the guards… escape… the cliffs.  I had to get up, I had to keep moving or they would find me.

I pressed my hands against the ground.  Little stones dug into my palms.  I pushed, rolling my body to the side.  As I moved fire exploded in the shoulder and gut.  I screamed and tumbled into a bottomless void.

Something warm touched my skin.

“I don’t believe it.  You’re still alive.”

Who said that?  I tried to answer, tried to move.

“Shh,” the voice continued.  “Hush little one, you’re in good hands now.”

Yep.  That was her introduction.  I’m still trying to figure out what exactly happened.

So, are you curious now?

    O.O *is quite curious* *wants more…please* 😀

  5. My characters introduce themselves to me the same way ;). Isn’t it fun getting to know them and write their stories? I have my own “three” that won’t be still even though I’m not quite ready for them. Must write down what they say!

And yes, I’m quite curious about your story and your New One. I wonder what she’s running from… or running to. What time period? Where is she? Love all the possibilities! Keep writing. 🙂
