Hello! My name is Laura, welcome to my blog! I write weird stories, collect dragon plushies and stay up too late with my nose in a book. I am a wife, mom and child saved by grace. My hope is that you find encouragement here or at least a smile or too.
    God bless!

We have come from God, and inevitably the myths woven by us, though they contain error, will also reflect a splintered fragment of the true light, the eternal truth that is with God. Indeed only by myth-making, only by becoming 'sub-creator' and inventing stories, can Man aspire to the state of perfection that he knew before the Fall. Our myths may be misguided, but they steer however shakily towards the true harbour, while materialistic 'progress' leads only to a yawning abyss and the Iron Crown of the power of evil.
    ~J.R.R. Tolkien

"The only just literary critic," he concluded, "is Christ, who admires more than does any man the gifts He Himself has bestowed."
    ~J.R.R. Tolkien

“Fantasy is escapist, and that is its glory. If a soldier is imprisioned by the enemy, don't we consider it his duty to escape?. . .If we value the freedom of mind and soul, if we're partisans of liberty, then it's our plain duty to escape, and to take as many people with us as we can!”
    ~J.R.R. Tolkien

"Writers who see by the light of their Christian faith will have, in these times, the sharpest eye for the grotesque, for the perverse, and for the unacceptable. To the hard of hearing you shout, and for the almost-blind you draw large and startling figures."
    ~Flannery O'Connor

You write to communicate to the hearts and minds of others what’s burning inside you. And we edit to let the fire show through the smoke.
    ~Arthur Polotnik

Words - so innocent and powerless as they are, as standing in a dictionary, how potent for good and evil they become in the hands of one who knows how to combine them.
    ~Nathaniel Hawthorne

"There are forms of insanity that condemn people to hear voices against their will, but as writers we invite ourselves to hear voices without relinquishing our hold on reality or our right to control."
    ~Writing Fiction by Janet Burroway

Christians have sometimes been suspicious of stories, because they really can influence you. If you read the Twilight novels once a month for a year, I think you'd be a different human afterward—and not a sparkly one.

Oh the Nerdiness of Me

Plush toy dragons, a Gandalf goblet, countless fantasy novels, weapons on the wall, maps to worlds that don’t really exist, and a homemade Doctor Who calendar; from the book shelf above my bed to my DVD collection, I am a nerd. Go figure. 😛

The world would be a boring place without nerds. Seriously, it would.  There would be no imagination, no fantasy, no Sci-Fi!  No books or movies! *gasp*  But not to fear, there are nerds, so the world is not such an empty place. 🙂

I was looking at all the things I have surrounding me in my bedroom that testify to my nerdiness (is nerdiness even a word?) and thought I’d be, well, a nerd, and do a blog post about it, just for the fun of it, (because I really don’t have anything more interesting to post…. suuuuure).  Everywhere you look in the room I share with my younger sister, in the areas that are considered “my space” you will find something related to dragons. It’s quite comical really. My sister has happy colors, pictures of flowers, collages of friends, funny cartoony pictures, a piano chords chart and scrapbooking supplies. I have; fantasy novels, dragon memorabilia, a scattering of Doctor Who, piles of notebooks, sticky notes galore, maps, pictures of characters and various scattered note related things. Not to mention weapons. 😉

Well, when you’re a fantasy writing, dragon collecting, Doctor Who watching nerd… well, you get the picture. 🙂 And speaking of pictures… here is my nerdiness for your very own viewing.

The bookshelf above my bed holds my plush dragon and Bryan Davis collections.

  1. You own your OWN extended edition LotR DVDs? O.O My dad has ours. I wanted to get the blu-ray set, though…however, it’s a teensy bit expensive.

Well, my brothers owned our first set and when they moved out it went with them. So after stealing theirs multiple times and REALLY missing it when they took them back, I asked for a set of my own. I think I got it for a Christmas or something… The regular DVDs just aren’t the same.

      • Expensive Christmas. O.O (Though I suppose they aren’t as expensive as when my dad bought them for mom [technically] all those years ago.)

We haven’t even owned the original DVDs. XD

  2. Just out of curiosity, how much did your newest dagger cost?

  3. Your dagger only cost 17 bucks!?!? Man! (can you tell I want one? XD) Love your room girl! I wish I could have a similarly epic place 😀 But I’m going to make due with a Film/cat room whenever we move and my sis and I design the bedroom. I will have epicness in it though – I have VotDT posters now!
