Hello! My name is Laura, welcome to my blog! I write weird stories, collect dragon plushies and stay up too late with my nose in a book. I am a wife, mom and child saved by grace. My hope is that you find encouragement here or at least a smile or too.
    God bless!

We have come from God, and inevitably the myths woven by us, though they contain error, will also reflect a splintered fragment of the true light, the eternal truth that is with God. Indeed only by myth-making, only by becoming 'sub-creator' and inventing stories, can Man aspire to the state of perfection that he knew before the Fall. Our myths may be misguided, but they steer however shakily towards the true harbour, while materialistic 'progress' leads only to a yawning abyss and the Iron Crown of the power of evil.
    ~J.R.R. Tolkien

"The only just literary critic," he concluded, "is Christ, who admires more than does any man the gifts He Himself has bestowed."
    ~J.R.R. Tolkien

“Fantasy is escapist, and that is its glory. If a soldier is imprisioned by the enemy, don't we consider it his duty to escape?. . .If we value the freedom of mind and soul, if we're partisans of liberty, then it's our plain duty to escape, and to take as many people with us as we can!”
    ~J.R.R. Tolkien

"Writers who see by the light of their Christian faith will have, in these times, the sharpest eye for the grotesque, for the perverse, and for the unacceptable. To the hard of hearing you shout, and for the almost-blind you draw large and startling figures."
    ~Flannery O'Connor

You write to communicate to the hearts and minds of others what’s burning inside you. And we edit to let the fire show through the smoke.
    ~Arthur Polotnik

Words - so innocent and powerless as they are, as standing in a dictionary, how potent for good and evil they become in the hands of one who knows how to combine them.
    ~Nathaniel Hawthorne

"There are forms of insanity that condemn people to hear voices against their will, but as writers we invite ourselves to hear voices without relinquishing our hold on reality or our right to control."
    ~Writing Fiction by Janet Burroway

Christians have sometimes been suspicious of stories, because they really can influence you. If you read the Twilight novels once a month for a year, I think you'd be a different human afterward—and not a sparkly one.
    ~Nate Wilson

dis·com·bob·u·late [dis-kuhm-bob-yuh-leyt] –verb to confuse or disconcert; upset; frustrate.

No, this is not the word of the day or anything; though it is an awesome word… this is me right now, so watch out if this post seems a bit random.

Ever feel like God is knocking on your heart and you’re trying franticly to find the right door to open it but you can’t?  You know that He’s trying to speak to you, but you just can’t seem to find the right radio signal to tune in to and hear Him.

You’ve set your heart on a dream, start working towards that dream, then begin to receive the dreaded messaged that this is not what God wants for you right now.  There are things you have to learn and attitudes you have to set right first.  The dream needs to wait.

I feel like I’m on a spiritual and mental roller coaster.  Hurling around at top speeds, careening around sharp bends, falling from heart pounding heights and holding on for dear life!  Nothing makes sense, everything stands out, and the world is spinning away uncontrollably.

Something has got to change.

Here I am again and yet anything cross roads.  How many can there be in just a few months? Apparently dozens, or hundreds, even thousands.

Maybe I should take a lesson from my characters.  Things don’t always go the way we plan, but that doesn’t mean our lives fall apart because of it.  We have faith, trust, and move on.  Know that somehow, things will work out for the best because we’re not the ones in control, He is.

End randomness.

  1. It’s funny, my Dad was just teaching me about this a few days ago in the scriptures, so I wanted to share it with you when I was reading this post about not knowing which path to take; or having situations where doors close. Now mind you, there is more to this, but can be summed up with Proverbs 3:1-10, most specifically verses 5 and 6.

Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and he shall direct thy paths.

In other words, if you lift your worries up to Him, and you trust in Him and do all your work for Him, He will put the desires on your heart that he needs you to strive for. 🙂 And something my Dad always shows me to decern what is from God is in James chapter three:

[verse 17] But the wisdom thas is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.

    (bold added by me)

And some times, God needs you to work for something for a while, and then he’s like “Okay, I need you to do something else now.”

Hope that helps you. 🙂 I also agree with you. When you don’t stress, life won’t fall apart when things happen.

    God bless! – Alexandra
