Hello! My name is Laura, welcome to my blog! I write weird stories, collect dragon plushies and stay up too late with my nose in a book. I am a wife, mom and child saved by grace. My hope is that you find encouragement here or at least a smile or too.
    God bless!

We have come from God, and inevitably the myths woven by us, though they contain error, will also reflect a splintered fragment of the true light, the eternal truth that is with God. Indeed only by myth-making, only by becoming 'sub-creator' and inventing stories, can Man aspire to the state of perfection that he knew before the Fall. Our myths may be misguided, but they steer however shakily towards the true harbour, while materialistic 'progress' leads only to a yawning abyss and the Iron Crown of the power of evil.
    ~J.R.R. Tolkien

"The only just literary critic," he concluded, "is Christ, who admires more than does any man the gifts He Himself has bestowed."
    ~J.R.R. Tolkien

“Fantasy is escapist, and that is its glory. If a soldier is imprisioned by the enemy, don't we consider it his duty to escape?. . .If we value the freedom of mind and soul, if we're partisans of liberty, then it's our plain duty to escape, and to take as many people with us as we can!”
    ~J.R.R. Tolkien

"Writers who see by the light of their Christian faith will have, in these times, the sharpest eye for the grotesque, for the perverse, and for the unacceptable. To the hard of hearing you shout, and for the almost-blind you draw large and startling figures."
    ~Flannery O'Connor

You write to communicate to the hearts and minds of others what’s burning inside you. And we edit to let the fire show through the smoke.
    ~Arthur Polotnik

Words - so innocent and powerless as they are, as standing in a dictionary, how potent for good and evil they become in the hands of one who knows how to combine them.
    ~Nathaniel Hawthorne

"There are forms of insanity that condemn people to hear voices against their will, but as writers we invite ourselves to hear voices without relinquishing our hold on reality or our right to control."
    ~Writing Fiction by Janet Burroway

Christians have sometimes been suspicious of stories, because they really can influence you. If you read the Twilight novels once a month for a year, I think you'd be a different human afterward—and not a sparkly one.
    ~Nate Wilson

So long November

November is nearly over… yikes, that went way too fast.  Why does time have to race by?  Or is it that we just take each moment for granted?

I suppose you all are looking for some kind of update on how things are going and why my NaNo word count bar has been stuck at 30k for the past week.  Well, I shall tell you.

November is one of the craziest months for my family, especially the last two and a half weeks.  There is my Birthday (and I had a party this year…) my best friend’s Birthday two days later, my mom’s Birthday the next week, Thanksgiving and everything that entails, and my Aunt flew up from California this year.  Plus, I’m trying to get into winter classes at a community college and have been studying for placement testing (should have had it all done months ago… aw well).  As it turned out, it all came down to a battle between college/studying, NaNoWriMo, and family/holiday-what-not and NaNo lost.  It was a choice that I had to make and I believe I made the right one.  At least I did what I set out to do through it; get a head start on CHOICES and learn to discipline myself to write a certain amount of words per day.  I am half way through CHOICES and have 30k words on it, not bad I guess.  🙂  Now I can go back over it and fix the things that have been bugging me to death that were only written for the word count, and focus more on the writing itself as I finish instead of the number of words I’m writing.

As for other things… I’m fighting a chest cold and have just felt… well, burned out for the last couple of weeks.  Thankfully the cold has not gone beyond an irritated throat and running nose.  I just feel like the world is weighing on my shoulders right now and I don’t know why.  I have so much on my mind these days, keeps me awake at night, and who needs their thoughts draining away their sleep? :\  It sometimes feels like everything is tumbling out of control and now matter what I do, I cann’t bring it back to order.

God, restore the order, bring back the peace.  I feel so lost.  Take me back.

Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving. 🙂

In Christ,

  1. *sniff sniff* your blog title is so sad!
it sounds like you had a choice to make, and although the choice you made makes me sad as we can’t cross the finishing line together =( …I back you 100% because you choose what you felt was right. =) Maybe some year, who knows. We’ve got a lifetime. =)

December is December, so it’s pretty busy. I have a couple extra things going on this year though.
I’m nervous excited about things to come. Hoping they will all work out.
I have seen Tangled and loved it! 😀 Have you seen it yet? I really want to go see it again.
