• The Writer

Hello! My name is Laura, welcome to my blog! I write weird stories, collect dragon plushies and stay up too late with my nose in a book. I am a wife, mom and child saved by grace. My hope is that you find encouragement here or at least a smile or too.
    God bless!

We have come from God, and inevitably the myths woven by us, though they contain error, will also reflect a splintered fragment of the true light, the eternal truth that is with God. Indeed only by myth-making, only by becoming 'sub-creator' and inventing stories, can Man aspire to the state of perfection that he knew before the Fall. Our myths may be misguided, but they steer however shakily towards the true harbour, while materialistic 'progress' leads only to a yawning abyss and the Iron Crown of the power of evil.
    ~J.R.R. Tolkien

"The only just literary critic," he concluded, "is Christ, who admires more than does any man the gifts He Himself has bestowed."
    ~J.R.R. Tolkien

“Fantasy is escapist, and that is its glory. If a soldier is imprisioned by the enemy, don't we consider it his duty to escape?. . .If we value the freedom of mind and soul, if we're partisans of liberty, then it's our plain duty to escape, and to take as many people with us as we can!”
    ~J.R.R. Tolkien

"Writers who see by the light of their Christian faith will have, in these times, the sharpest eye for the grotesque, for the perverse, and for the unacceptable. To the hard of hearing you shout, and for the almost-blind you draw large and startling figures."
    ~Flannery O'Connor

You write to communicate to the hearts and minds of others what’s burning inside you. And we edit to let the fire show through the smoke.
    ~Arthur Polotnik

Words - so innocent and powerless as they are, as standing in a dictionary, how potent for good and evil they become in the hands of one who knows how to combine them.
    ~Nathaniel Hawthorne

"There are forms of insanity that condemn people to hear voices against their will, but as writers we invite ourselves to hear voices without relinquishing our hold on reality or our right to control."
    ~Writing Fiction by Janet Burroway

Christians have sometimes been suspicious of stories, because they really can influence you. If you read the Twilight novels once a month for a year, I think you'd be a different human afterward—and not a sparkly one.

Friday’s Five

1.  Again… this is the only blog post of the week.  (Bad girl.)  I’m working next week but I DO PLAN on posting the next part in the Character Development series.  REALLY!!!  It will be posted!  Either Monday or Tuesday, see what happens.

2.  I did weeding for my dad today.  (Good girl.)  🙂  My German Shepherd Dog Heidi tried to help me, then decided she just wanted me to throw her stick for her.  Never a dull moment with that dog. 🙂

3.  I’m on a mission to become healthy and fit!  So I’m doing this thing called… drum roll please… The 21 Day Metabolism Makeover.  It’s a three week “diet” (I guess you could call it that, plus a fitness plan…) where you pretty much rewire your metabolism so it burns fat instead of storing it.  Each day you add something new to what you’re doing.  I started doing it last year and got up to day fifteen, but ended up stopping, (can’t remember why,) this time I’m going all the way through!  It really does work and I’m rather excited about finally finishing it.  🙂  Wish me luck!

4.  I need to start outlining again… I’m such a lazy writer.

5.  I bought my own copy of Tolkien’s The Hobbit at a garage sale for twenty-five cents!  Very happy about that.  The copy my family has is really old (second printing or something…) and falling apart.  Now I have a nice copy that I get to keep and don’t have to be afraid to read. 🙂

Have a great weekend!

~Laura

  1. btw, this post strangely repeats, so you might want to delete the repeat.
Sounds like a good summer week! =)
Where can you find out about the 21 metabolism makeover? I’m sure my body would not be worse off for being better in shape… 😉

      Okay, that was weird…

The whole things is kind of spendy. It’s a thing we bought called, “Food Lovers Fat Loss System.” Here’s the site. https://www.foodloversfatloss.com/
Pretty much what you do is start eating something every two to three hours, (meal, snack, meal, snack…), learn how to combine foods the right way along with the right amounts, exercise at least three times a week, eat more healthy and raw foods, learning to drink more water… etc. It’s really good! It changes how you view food and it sticks with you. 🙂 (I can tell you more about it and show you the books/videos when next we get-together.)
