Yeah, I listen to allot of music. Funny thing is, when I get into the zone, I don’t hear it at all. I’ll usually miss most of what I’m listening to and have to start it all over again.

Scribblings is moving along! I have one more story to finish, a couple still to revise, and then it will be time to read through everything.

So far so good! I’m nearly there!

It feels so weird to be having a book come out in a month and a half. Weird yet exciting. I’ve been working towards publication for so long it feels very surreal right now.

Can’t wait ’till March!

Here is a little clip from a brand new story to be featured in Scribblings.

G-nomes. That’s right; you say the “g”. These little guys are very particular on how you say their name. For years people of been mispronouncing it and they have become quit indignant about it. As a result, they have called me in for damage control. I have been hired by these little fellows to present to the public the truth about their existence and to clear the smoke of all our modern misconceptions concerning them.

Now, Gnomes do not trust very many people and it is a great privilege if they choose to let you into their inner circle. I only managed to find myself in such a place when I discovered one of the creatures, quit be accident, trying to make off with my whole box of Kleenex. Gnomes have very large runny noses you see, so they are always making off with peoples tissues. It took some time, and the rest of my secret stash of chocolate, to keep the little thing from going goblin on me, but in the end, we became friends.

Something is coming! Something exciting!

My very first published work is being release this March! Self-published through Lulu.

Scribblings is a collection of illustrated short stories, poems, (and some little extra pieces). The book will include popular stories such as Angel Wings, By Morning, a piece from Stephen of Scarborough and many more. Also poems such as A Little Imagination and Caught in a Cave-In. Scribblings will also feature never before seen stories written by ours truly.

The beautiful cover art and illistrations are done by Garret Maytum of Standing Strong Art.

I am super excited about this book and I hope you are too.

Get out Your Club: Editing Tips

I do not like editing. I’m an outlining, brainstorming, first draft writing writer. It’s in the beginning process of my novels when inspiration is on my side and working with me, but as soon as I begin editing inspiration seems to turn tail and run. So, I got out my club and chased after it. It’s taken me a couple of years, but I think I have finally discovered the editing process that works for me.

Got out your clubs and come run with me as we chase after our inspiration in editing.

If you are like me and you love brainstorming and outlining, here is a little trick I discovered. In order to help keep that inspiration going through edits, trick your brain. How do you trick our brains when we’re editing? Here’s how.

Once you are done writing your first draft read through it once, only once, and after a considerable amount of time to make sure it’s fresh. As you read make notes of things you know you need to fix. Things like plot wholes, character inconsistencies, clichés, even scenes you don’t quote like, anything and everything. Once that is done pick one and begin re-outlining it. Brainstorm ideas as if you are just beginning to write this story.

Right now I am doing ALL my editing for Heart of Hope in a note-book. I’m not going to touch the document until I have all my bases covered. Every little detail is being reworked on paper, with a pen. I’m pretty much re-outlining the whole thing, fixing what needs to be fixed and tweaking things that didn’t quite sit well with me, and you know what? I am enjoying it.

This editing process mirrors the first draft outlining and idea brainstorming that I love to do. I’m tricking my brain into thinking it’s not editing. :)

I have no idea how things will go once I begin cutting and re-writing my way through the document, but I’m not going to let that get me down. My inspiration is once again on my side and I have never been more excited for Heart of Hope‘s outcome.

2011: What a Year

2011 was an amazing year, full of wonderful memories I will keep for the rest of my life. My brother’s wedding, the OYAN Workshops, visiting family in California, the Renaissance Faire, my best friend’s wedding, turning 21, and hundreds of other wonderful moments all packed into the last 365 days. There have been as many tears shed as smiles shared, and moments that will last a lifetime. As I look back on 2011 I can smile and say, “That was a brilliant year.” I can’t wait to see what 2012 has in store.
